Frequently Asked Questions...

  • What is a Mother’s Day Out (MDO) program?

A Mother’s Day Out program offers part-time care and learning for young children in a safe, nurturing environment. It gives parents a few hours of free time during the week while children enjoy structured activities, play, and early learning experiences.

  • What age groups do you serve?

We typically serve children ages 6 weeks to 5 years, depending on enrollment and class availability. Each age group has age-appropriate activities and a consistent daily routine.

  • What are your hours and days of operation?

Our program runs on a 2-day option, Tuesdays and Thursdays, or Mondays and Wednesdays, or a 4-day option, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

We follow the local school district calendar for holidays and closures.

  • What will my child do during the day?

Each day includes a mix of:

    • Circle time and storytime
    • Music and movement
    • Arts and crafts
    • Free play and outdoor time
    • Snack and lunch time
    • Rest or quiet time (for younger children)

Activities are designed to support early social, emotional, and developmental skills.

  • Is this a religious or faith-based program?

Yes, our program is rooted in Christian values. We include prayer, Bible stories, and songs that share God’s love in a way that is age-appropriate and welcoming to all families.

  • Do you provide snacks or lunch?

We ask that parents pack a healthy and nutritious lunch and snack each day. Please include a labeled water bottle. Teachers are happy to assist your child with eating and opening containers

  • What safety measures are in place?

Your child’s safety is our top priority. We:

    • Use a secure check-in and check-out system
    • Maintain low student-to-teacher ratios
    • Ensure staff are CPR/First Aid certified
    • Clean and sanitize rooms and toys daily
    • Follow allergy and health protocols
  • How do I register my child/children?

You can register by completing our registration form and turning in a physical copy or emailing one to the MDO Director, Devon Pozniak (dpozniak@firstanna.org).

Spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The Director will set your family up in Seer, and you will receive an email to sign up to pay your registration fee

  • What if my child cries or has separation anxiety?

This is completely normal! Our teachers are loving and patient, and we work closely with families to help children adjust. Most little ones grow comfortable quickly with a consistent routine and gentle encouragement.

  • How can I communicate with my child’s teacher?

We encourage open communication! Teachers will provide updates through notes, photos, and through our Seer program. You can also email or speak directly with your child’s teacher at drop-off or pick-up.

  • How is discipline handled?

Discipline at First Anna MDO is designed to be individualized and consistent for each child. It is always based on what is appropriate for the child’s level of understanding and is aimed at teaching acceptable behavior through love and guidance. Our approach to discipline reflects the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We use positive reinforcement and focus on each child’s strengths and the unique gifts God has given them. If a child needs extra support with behavior, we will first use positive strategies and creative ideas to guide them. If a child needs to be separated from the group for a couple of minutes to calm down, then the director will help. If those strategies are not effective, we will reach out to you to discuss next steps and work together on a plan that best supports your child.

  • Do you follow a schedule?

Each age group follows a general schedule. Although specifics may vary from class to class, you will receive the final schedule at our parent night. There is no specified schedule for infants, we will go off their cues and parents' wishes!

  • Will you help my child potty train?

We understand that toilet training can be an interesting time for you and your child. Please rest assured that our teachers in Toddlers, Twos, and Threes are glad to help with this process in any way that they can.

(Please note that your child must be toilet trained before he or she will be allowed to promote to the 4/5 year old preschool classes.)

  • Can I pick my child up early?

Of course! Please understand that you will still be charged the monthly rate, regardless of pickup time.

  • What are your policies on vaccines?

At First Anna MDO, the safety and well-being of our employees and the children in our care is a top priority. While we encourage practices that support a healthy environment, immunizations for vaccine-preventable diseases are optional for employees and students. If an employee or child chooses to forgo vaccines, the appropriate documentation will need to be submitted.

  • How does naptime work?

Each child will need a nap mat that can be rolled up and stored away during the day. The nap mat will go home daily. We will encourage all children to rest during our designated quiet time.

During this time, the lights will be off and soft music will be played. Children must stay on their nap mat. We understand it may take time for some children to adjust to their new surroundings and that falling asleep might be difficult at first. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help your child have a successful rest time at MDO.

    Helpful Tip:

If your child has never used a nap mat before, start placing it in their crib or bed at home a few weeks before MDO begins. This helps them associate the nap mat with sleep and can make the transition easier.

  • What happens if I want to withdraw my child?

If something changes and you are unable to fulfill your contract, you must submit to First Anna Mother’s Day Out director a 30-day written notice. You are responsible for paying for the 30 days. There are no exceptions.

  • What are the teacher-student ratios?
    • Infants - 2 teachers/5 students
    • 1-2 year olds - 2 teachers/12 students
    • 2-3 year olds - 2 teachers/15 students
    • 3-4 year olds - 2 teachers/20 students
